Pathfinder Minutes March 21,

Works Breakroom
Karen Borga, Chairperson, called the meeting to order at 8:06 P.M.
In Attendance: Karen Borga, Dawn Rakow, Madeleine Nist, Leo Kissling, Ronnie
Bruchez, Dan Green,Sam Wimmer, and Sarah Ralston. High School students Jon
Duff,
Elizabeth Keshecki, Diva Brown, Megan Milos, Ashley Meyerhoff, Maggie Murphy,
Dena Miranda, and Jenny Recht also were present.
Our meeting dates and locations of the meetings are going to be published in
the Tri- _Town News from now on. Dawn Rakow's name and phone number will be in
as our contact person for the Pathfinders.
The February minutes were approved.
Corresponding Secretary: Sarah Ralston A thank you note was written to
Joe Polizzi for the wonderful shed the Department of Public Works erected for
us.
Treasurer's report:Tom Stevens- We are working on a list to submit to
Staples. Color cartridge for Tom's printer for maps, digital pictures, etc. two
boxes brown kraft envelopes 9"x12" size, one box (750 labels)
for printing addresses, file box —plastic with folding lid, file box-plastic
with carrying handle and pen, etc. mobile storage for paper (waivers, member
forms, our brochures) for events, trails, and booth days. Box of hanging
folders, box of manila folders for hanging folders, ream of yellow paper for
copying, pack of postcard paper, three dozen stick pens for events and booth
days, etc. All this comes to about $100-$150.
Discussions: Saturday, March 23, trail maintenance day at Frank
Applegate. Dawn and Tom will arrive at lOAM. The Jackson High School Service
learning class will arrive around 1 1AM.. Don't forget to bring bott led water,
gloves, rakes, wheelbarrows, pruners and anyting else appropriate for hauling
woodchips. Don't forget your insect repellent.
Saturday, April 13th is the Spring Festival at the Resource Education Center
from 9AM- 1PM. (rain or shine)
National Trails Day: June 1st 9AM with a rain date of June 2. We
would like to purchase a plaques and dedicate the road to the Doctor. We will
invite the Township Committee and the press.
We have our canopy and it is stored in our new shed.
Website: Madeleine Nist — Everything is going along quite well.
Biking: Ronnie Bruchez- Would like to plan a 28 mile ride in the fall.
Will check it out with the police to get their input and approval on designated
sites.
Hiking: Jim Doyle — absent but submitted the following report. Monthly
activities- painted the second coat on Frank Applegate trail blazes. Replaced
posts on Frank Applegate bridge with Tom Stevens. Helped Leo and Tom build the
temporary bridge. Created information sheet for Frank Applegate trail blazes
(marks). Next months Planned Activities: Wells Mills hike, Saturday, April 20th
at 9AM. Details will be posted on Web. Other News: Joining the NY/NJ trail
conference, completed 2002 application and gave Tom Stevens to mail with check.
Johnson Park: Sam Wimmer — We are making progress.
Boy Scout Projects: Leo
Kissling — nothing at this time.
Wildlife Preservation: Anthony Santa Maria — Monthly statement: A
materials request has been submitted to the Forest Resource Center for the
construction of 6 more Barred owl nestboxes, 6 more screech owl nestboxes and 3
woodchuck nestboxes. Material was acquired for 3 northern flicker woodpecker
nest boxes — which were constructed and installed as well. One of the several
species of frog breeding at the Frank Applegate trails site has been positively
identified as the woodfrog. Four specimens were captured and released several
days after studies were made. Planning for the Spring Conservation Day has
begun. A guided tour presentation of previously installed nestboxes will be
conducted on behalf of the Jackson Pathfinders at the Forest Resource Center.
Grants: Dawn Rakow — Walmart grant is questionable.
New Business: Dan Green is concerned about flooding at the end of the
trail. However, a boardwalk is planned.
Publicity: Dawns' article was not in the newspaper.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:10pm.
