Pathfinder Minutes of October 18, 2001
Karen Borga, Chairperson, called the meeting to order at 8:15pm in the town
hall employee lounge.
In attendance: Karen Borga, James Doyle, Joy Cole, Karen Walzer, Dawn Rakow, Madeleine Nist, Tom Stevens, Laura Sockey, Wayne Brodbeck, Kevin Zillis, Valerie Oakley, Rachelle Morris, and Thomas Mason.
The September minutes were approved.

Corresponding secretary: Sarah Ralston – It was suggested that a letter be written to the Township Committee asking to be re-instated for 2002.
Committee reports:
Website: Madeleine Nist: www.jacksonpathfinders.org. is now linked to the
township website. Madeleine is going to contact Bob Ryley about replacing the
old home page with a message to go to our new website.
Bowman Road/Forestry Center: Karen Walzer. The Fall Festival Day went well in spite of the rainy start. Jim Doyle and Bill Tuohy led a hike with an enthusiastic group of cub scouts.
Pathfinders Events: Joy Cole- we had a good turnout for Jackson Day. Pathfinders members marched in the Jackson Day parade and assisted at the table.
Biking: Uriah Albrink – absent – no report
Hiking: Jim Doyle- Monthly activities:. Participated in the Fall Forestry Center day, Saturday, October 6.. Assisted at the table. Hike scheduled for Saturday, October 20 to “Caranza to Apple Pie Hill” in Wharton State Forest. Its 8.2 miles with a couple interesting hills. Next month's Planned Activities for Hiking: In November it’s back to Colliers Mills to try out some of the trails. Tom needs mapping. Date and trail to be determined.
Other News: Joining the NY/NJ trail conference. We have approval for the $50 application fee from Jackson Twp. Scott Voorhees of the Trails conference requested to just send the application at this time. Tom Stevens mailed it. Scott will try to present it to the January general assembly meeting for a vote. The Trails conference calendar year starts on January 1, we can apply the $50 and receive a full years benefit.
Johnson Park: Sam Wimmer – absent
Mapping: Tom Stevens – We had some good contacts on Jackson Day. Volunteers are needed to identify land for acquisition by coordinating with mapping committee. Long term goals for open space plan?
Scrapbook: Lauren & Alyson Stevens – There are pictures added from Jackson Day.
Publicity: Art Rosky – The new brochure that includes a map showing trail areas in Jackson was given out at the Forest Resource Center Fall Festival on October 6, 2001.
Land Acquisition: Karen Borga – The Glenn Road information was given to Ocean County Natural Lands Trust. OCNLT sent a letter to property owners. Forest Resource Ctr. has received 248 acres—block 40.68 lots 49.04 & 55.02, whole block 43.07 excluding lots 7 &8. 876 acres to go to NJCF blk 40, lots 17,18.01,42,68, Blk 40, lots 17, 18.01,42,68. Blk 40.69 Blk 40.70 Lots 1.2, Blk 40.71 thru 40.74. 75 acres on Bismarck Road adjacent to already preserved property being looked into.
Membership: Dawn Rakow
Computer programming: Joe Russo – Joe has completed the phone list. Several copies were passed around during the meeting.
Frank Applegate Road Nature Trail: Dawn & Madeleine - Volunteers are needed to move woodchips and help complete the trail. Pruning day planned for mid November. Details to follow via e-mail.
Grants: Dawn Rakow – We are still looking into them.
Discussions:
1. Boy Scout troop wants to adopt a trail off Don Connor. Dawn
2. Monday, November 12th seminar. Dawn
3. Nominations for board members will be during the November meeting.
Elections to follow in December and we can submit the list with Sarah’s letter
the third week of December.
