Purple Heart Trail Event Celebrates New Digital Nature Walk

Ribbon-cutting ceremony

Denise Garner, a 2016 member of the Jackson Environmental Commission, cut the ribbon during our May 21st event officially opening the new digital nature walk and kiosk at the trail.

After the ribbon-cutting, everyone enjoyed a hike to see the new signs and kiosk. Scanning the QR codes was easy.  Birding expert Michael Mandracchia helped us identify the birds we saw and heard along the way, including a  female Scarlet Tanager. Check out Mike’s beautiful photos on our “Birds of the Bogs” page.

We also spotted a female painted turtle laying her eggs in the sand.

The next time you visit the Purple Heart Trail, try the new digital nature walk and enjoy the wildlife on the trail. Thank you to ANJEC for funding this project through a grant to the Jackson Environmental Commission.
